Our procurement team work hard to develop strong relationships with farmers to ensure we have a sustainable supply of cattle whilst providing a clear and concise payment structure. We purchase all grades of cattle which is monitored by MLC independent graders.
We source approximately 85% of our cattle directly from farms from across the South West of England to minimise the travel distances and therefore vehicle emissions, the majority of cattle are delivered to the site via the farmers themselves or we use ABM approved hauliers.
Our buyers Gosia and Tom, are ready to visit Farms to set up new relationships with Farmers and if required assist with any information on feeding, livestock weights/grades.
There are many benefits to farmers supplying Alec Jarrett for example; Payments are transparent linked to the EUROP grid system which is designed to calculate fair prices for all grades including dairy cattle. Once graded by the independent graders the farmers are notified on the day of delivery and slaughter followed by the payment the day after.
For any cattle to qualify for West Country Beef PGI status it must be from stock born, raised and reared within Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset or Wiltshire and fed a minimum of 70% forage based diet.
If you are going to be supplying us with West Country Cattle in order for us to verify this we require you to complete a West Country Beef Declaration Form, please find link to the form below. Once you have completed this form please send this with the delivery as well as all other relevant forms and passports. This allows the Lairage Office to check all cattle prior to booking onto our system.
